      The reason I’m wondering is because of this 4koma that the author published in Sylph that basically slaps everyone in the face and says, “hiyokomame is supposed to be taken literally.”

   Literal is usually good. Sometimes over-translating leads to interpreting instead.

   This works great for the DBZ/Naruto/Bleach crowd who need a lot of hand holding because they don’t know much about Japanese language/culture and can’t understand anything past common English words.

   I like fansubs more when they cater to those who have been watching long enough or are intelligent enough to understand things in context. I think “chickpea” is semi-obvious, even if you’ve never heard the word before, if nothing else because of how it’s used.

   Otherwise, people can look up the word, or a TL note can deal with those who are too lazy and really need that much help.

   Like it has been pointed out on Whiners.Pro, I agree that using chickpea literally doesn’t make much sense. But I don’t mind eiter way, as long as enough Luca shows up :3
