AKB0048 TV Batch Released!

Source

Iiiiit’s batch time!

And here we are! We’ll continue work on the Blu-Rays but for now, here’s the TV batch with as much corrected as we could find. Among other things:

  • Terminology is now consistent across all episodes (Center Nova, WOTA, Sensei-sensei).
  • A few minor translation errors have been corrected.
  • A bit of extra editing and detail tweaks. The names of ships (Flying Get, Katyusha) are italicized, according to the common convention.
  • A few cleaned-up typesets (the Wall of Clones in episode 5, for example).

I also (finally) wrote up those translator’s notes that I kept saying I was going to. You can find the link to the PDF down below.

We’ve also provided patches that will convert the original releases to the final batch versions, courtesy of a convoluted Perl script that I wrote in my spare time. It now generates an “APPLY ALL.bat” file, which is almost not experimental anymore. We are not responsible if it blows up your computer.

Thanks for telling me about that one bit I never knew about. :D Now checking out the commentaries!

Also, am getting this one batch for keeps, and I’m also happy about the translation notes.

Has the entire glossary been translated?

It might be a good idea to put that on a pdf, too, for completeness.

Thanks for the batch/patches! BTW, is the font change for Ep.01 ED song a deliberate choice or are they missing?

Ahhh you know what? I’m an idiot.

Fonts were indeed forgotten. Seems I can’t do anything without forgetting -something-.

Since we didn’t sub the vol.1 commentary, chances are no, but we’ll see. Commentaries tend to be trickier than scripted dialogue because you’ll have three people talking at once (none of them fully understandable) and they’re also -constantly- talking, with no action scenes to space it out. A commentary track might take twice the effort to translate that the episode it goes with would.

i ran the patcher to fix the eps and now they dont match to the torrent
and also i cant access the irc chan

Could you explain in detail? If the patch was successful you should have new files for all the episodes with “v2″ in the filename and new CRC32 hashes at the end. If you have a hashing program like RapidCRC you can check that the files match the CRC hashes.

What is your IRC nickname and host? Maybe you accidentally ended up on the ban list.

      1. megate

        my irc name is megate
and the files dontr have the crc at the end at the end
        [EveTaku] AKB0048 – 01 (1280×720 x264 AAC)[3907D306].mkv << original
        [EveTaku] AKB0048 – 01v2 (1280×720 x264 AAC).mkv << patched
and i used the apply all patch witch worked fine and did not affect my pc

You know, as a matter of fact, I forgot to CRC all of the 8-bit files.

Next time, somebody else checks my work. Those files should be fine.

Thank you for the notes, interesting stuff!

About the stage position markers, they aren’t just imaginary markers but real numbers on the stages. You can see it in backstage footage from concerts, and I remember Takamina once comparing the number range in the AKB48 theater to the number range at one of the larger concert halls, so I dont think the number thing is an AKB specific thing.

Still waiting for BD release vol. 2.

But well, take your time guys, I know you are going to deliver it eventually.

PS: please do another audio comment again like the one you did in vol 1. ^^

Many thanks for the translator notes. I really enjoy anything that helps me understand anime better and I quite appreciate the trouble you’ve gone to to provide them.

Just to share some speculation of my own, I’ve noticed that, while Chieri thinks her kirara only glows brightly around Nagisa, I feel it’s more that it glows when the two of them are together, and usually touching. This might add some weight to the idea that there’s some significance to the two zeros in 0048, as the two of them have personalities that seem to complement each other quite nicely

What’s the deal with the font (the Mediafire link is dead, and doesn’t even display the filename)?

Am I right in saying that the missing font is “second breakfast.ttf”, it’s only missing from the 10bit episode 1 (311464F8), it’s not missing from the 8bit episode 1 (452860EA), and mkvextracting it from any other episode would accomplish the same thing as downloading it?
