AKB0048 Episode 13 (END) Released! [8-bit released]

It’s a promise!

And AKB0048 comes to an end! Will there be more? Watch the episode and find out~ (not like you haven’t heard the news elsewhere already)

There was an issue with the 8-bit encode, so we’ll release that sometime tomorrow. Hope you all enjoyed this show as much as we did! It was a blast.

Final comments

lygerzero0zero (translator/typesetter): As silly as the premise sounded, I had faith the staff involved would bring us something great, and I’m quite happy I was right. This show was a blast, and I had the opportunity to further develop my translation style through working on it. Doing a sci-fi show full of terminology was a bit outside of my comfort zone, and as you may have noticed the terminology tripped me up more than once, but I’m glad I got to expand my horizons and try something I don’t usually do. I’ll be writing up a translator’s notes post sometime soon, just to touch on a few tidbits I found interesting. Some other stuff may be coming, too. Keep an eye out!

Jeffrey-sama (editor): Mayuyu <3
I was initially disappointed when it seemed like no group was going to pick up AKB0048, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when it was decided that EveTaku would be doing it. Throughout the series, I learned more and more about AKB48 and quickly became a fan of them and their music. I really enjoyed editing this show and am definitely going to miss watching it. It’s too bad I’ll have to wait until 2013 before getting my weekly dose of space idols once again. But in the meantime, there’s always AKBINGO! and other AKB48 media that I can indulge in (and barely understand), so it’s not going to be too painful of a wait. Anyways, I’d like to thank everyone for watching our releases. Your support is greatly appreciated. See you Next stage!

Calyrica (karaoke everything): Hello!~ Caly here. I guess lyger wants all of us to make our final impressions on AKB0048, so here’s mine!

The reason why I asked to join Evetaku for this show is because my best friend, Mayuyu (co-founder of Jinsei with me), is a huge AKB48 fan and had been looking forward to this anime for months. I didn’t really listen when he’d rant on about it, though, so I didn’t know what to expect. At first, I thought it was going to be a dramatic action-packed drama about liberating planets from the entertainment ban. While this has its moments in the show, it turned out to be much more character driven and focused on the successors finding their place in AKB, which was fun, too. I’m a sucker for music anime, and this definitely fits in my list! While I can’t say I’ve become a fan of AKB48 because of this – please learn to sing first, ladies – I have fallen completely in love with Takamina. Takaminaaaa~ <3

I had a lot of fun working on karaoke for this show! There were many insert songs, and I kind of lost track of what fonts and effects I used, so I hope I didn't bore you with my treatment of any of the songs. I had never heard any of them before the show, either, so I hope I didn't ruin any of your favourites! As the series went on, I grew more bold with my effects, so I hope I didn't kill your computers too badly. XD

I can't wait for the next season! I'll definitely be working on it, too! TO BE NEXT STAGE!

lunr (timer): At first, I wasn’t sure what was AKB0048 was going to be like. To be honest, I wasn’t interested with this at all in the beginning, but since we have taken up this project, might as well do it and finish it. For all I knew, we were doing this project because none of the other groups were picking it up. After the first episode of AKB0048… Oh man, I got converted instantly. The songs were really fun and addicting. Surely, I had to do more research about AKB48.

Sure, I knew the group’s name AKB48 and been to the official shop at Hong Kong but that was really it. I was never really into the idol stuff, maybe a couple of songs from Morning Musume and Idoling!; and a bit of iDOLM@STER (stopped at episode 16). It was off to YouTube to research about AKB48. After a few video clips from YouTube, I already fell in love with AKB48. Their songs, the personality of each girl, and their determination for the group really amazes me. My oshimen? It has to be Miichan. She’s so fun and funny. Her solos are really amazing!

Back to AKB0048, It’s really a great show and I’m glad that they announced a second season. Though, I do think the story is a bit generic but overall, a really fun show. I really had fun working on this project (timing, k-timing). On the other hand, I can’t wait to see what they do with second season. Can’t wait to see who’s the next Acchan! As part of the staff at EveTako, I thank all of the people who watched and supported our releases. See you Next stage! (Oh god, this is going be a meme or some sort)

Yumirose (QC/misc): When lyger first said that he was interested in doing a show called “AKB0048″, I stared at him through my computer monitor with solemn, doubting eyes. “Why the hell would lyger, a fine, respectful man, want to work on a show based off a Japanese idol group?” I shook my head in dismay. But, believing in the off-chance that the show could be good, I watched the first episode. And by god, it was good. Dare I say it, fun. Every episode was a joy to watch and work on, and I’m glad to see it getting a second season. Hope you all enjoyed the ride as much as I did. To be next stage!

Never means what exactly? Are you planning to do the S2 or not? I wanna any official statement on this.

As for me, i love your S1, wanna to have S2 as well (from the same people)…

  1. Aurora

Thanks for your hard work, it was an amazing ride :)

Also, I dunno if it was just me, but the “Fancy Karaoke” track doesn’t work right away.. and requires me to seek to a random spot to turn them on, then back to the beginning, but not at 00:00 but at like 00:01 to make sure they don’t turn off again.

I’ve forgotten what I’ve done on this laptop in terms of setup.. my desktop is set up the ‘good’ way from scratch with LAV / Madvr, but I’m pretty sure this one still has cccp.

    1. marshmallowcat

having same problem, latest mpc-hc, coreavc, ffdshow, haali. have to switch to plain sub track to fix. never had problems with this setup before

otherwise thanks for the lolis peeps ( ゚ω^ )ゝ 乙であります!

      1. lygerzero0zero

The site’s always been kinda slow. We’re working on possibly moving or re-installing some stuff. The problem is we don’t really have a webmaster… our original leader had someone else help him set up the site.

  2. random

Thanks. I hope you sub S2 when it comes out next year.

Oh, and why does your website take ages to load lately? It hasn’t always been that way.

  3. v3000

Thanks the entire team for their work on this small underrated epic, and what a journey! I suppose a cooler full of ice-cold beer will be in order.

Until then, we’re ready for the next stage.

    Cheers!

  4. massi4h

Been fiending all day to watch this after watching the stream at 2am and not fully understanding the whole episode. Thank you very much Evetaku for subbing this and with by far the highest quality subs I’ve seen to date!

  5. keikeik

Have you heard what lunr said? He said, “Never”. But thanks release them all. I hope, HorribleSubs didn’t dropped Second Season,

  6. ztb

Thanks for all your hard work (esp the fancy subs), my daughter and I really enjoyed the ride. Cheers!

    1. Prologue

All the other successors are [insert name] the [insert number]th. For Mayuyu, she’s the third model (san gata). Different kanji. It’s a play on a description of how people sometimes refer to Mayuyu: Cyborg Girl, or Cyborg Idol. Because she doesn’t sweat and usually has a poker face (though I don’t agree with this last part).

  7. Prologue

OMIGOSH that was one powerful ending! I was wondering why there weren’t any NO NAME PV, but heck, who needs a PV with this? The dual-wielding, the wrestling move, the belt-feed. And the light show.

And it feels great to know that the name of the legendary Acchan will continue on, that the name will not be censored out! 1 month & 4 days before the original Acchan’s graduation =(

    1. Hana

Thx so much for all the sub work ^ ^
Us AKB fans really appreciate all your works.
Another AKB fan uploaded your stuffs on this site too and it made it really easy for me to watch the show ^ ^
      http://vid48.com/
This site have other subbed AKB stuffs like AKBINGO and documentaries so if anyone interested, you’re free to check it.

I’m glad there’s some people that got into AKB because of this ^ ^
Well the thing about AKB is that they’re not perfect talent, but that’s why fans can enjoy watching them improve. However Masuda Yuka, Akimoto Sayaka, Iwasa Misaki, Kashiwagi Yuki aren’t bad and definitely top singers of the group. Beside they’re fun and so entertaining just like this show lol.

      1. Prologue

        +1
vid48 now requires you to log in though. Probably legal issues; a lot of AKB48 stuff tends to disappear quickly from YouTube, especially the PVs.

Honesty Chess (Shoujiki Shogi) is by far my favourite segment. Especially when Mayuyu or Acchan play XD

        1. Prologue

The PV came out in this week’s AKBINGO! It’s fun to try to point out which one is whom based on their accessories. I only recognise Karen Iwata (Nagisa) & Mayu Watanabe (Chieri) off hand

  8. Seraphim

Thanks for the hard work translating this series.
Now I just need to wait for it to finish downloading.

  9. Emmeline D.

    I just started downloading it…
I just wanna say: thank you everyone for translating this! It was great, and I loved it! I hope, if there is a second seasond, to watch it with you! <3

  10. Yousei-san

Thanks for a good ride, guys! I really enjoyed this show,

What’s the status on Sword Art Online btw?

  11. Vidach

Thank you for all your hard work. That was such a great ending. Love the fact that they included the Mayuyu cyborg, it resembled one of her photo shoots. Awesome show. Thank you again.

  12. Prologue

I’m working on a cosplay of a WOTA suit. I’ve got the head generally assembled, but I have no photoshopping skill. I’m looking for a decal of the Otaku Queen Mayuyu (either anime one or the live one are fine). Background colour is pink, something like the cardboard used (no I don’t have the colour code).

Here are pictures of what it’s like for now. There’s a meter stick to compare. The width at the tip is 35 cm, and the highest point is also 35 cm.

    Yoroshiku!

  13. Nozomi_96

Do you know the names of the last two songs? I know the credits song is sung by No Name and the last song in the show (where they are saying goodbye to the fans) is sung by AKB48, but I can’t read (understand) the names in the credits. Help?

    1. Prologue

The AKB48 song is Yakusoku Yo. I searched for songs with “yo” (the only character I recognised in the name).
The NO NAME song is probably Niji no Ressha, the third track in their upcoming single.

  14. sandoe41

For everyone who may be having any playback issue with subs; copying them to a separate ass. file [I use MPC-HC], then playing from it or remuxing it, works for me about 99% of the time. Many thanks to EveTaku for the great work on this series, look forward to S2 in 2013!

  15. Sylon

    Hallu EveTaku~

I was wondering, So I’ve got an order with the first BD of AKB (well two orders with it, it’s a long complicated story with crappy online stores) and despite lack of subs I plan to buy the rest as my first JP order (even though I’m NOT a BD person, most of my players are DVD only).
    Anyway-
I was thinking since you guys appear to be subbing the BDs and most of the extras- would it be possible to do little releases of one file containing subs for the whole BD, each volume? (That I can put on while I watch the BD, I am led to believe if like DVDs or unsubbed video files this should work no problem. I forget what file type I used for subs for the DVDs and video files but all I know is I have done so before.)

If this could be considered I’d greatly appreciate it. I am sure myself and other people who are purchasing the BDs would be willing to pay a small price (of maybe $1-$2) to encourage you.

Thank you for reading my wall of text, I do hope you consider it.

      1. Sylon

Ah, sorry the site kept telling me it hadn’t gone through so I reposted it here after a bit.

        Sorry about that >.<

        Thanks.

When some money comes in I will happily donate some after the scripts come out (Tis basically what I meant when I said pay)

  16. WOTAFighter

Thank you very much for releasing this series
I enjoed it from the beginning
    One question
Are you planning on releasing the BluRay version??
Thank you very much for bringing to us AKB0048

  17. Tsubomi

Thank you for all your work on this show. My fiance and I have loved it the whole way, and it’s thanks to you guys that we’ve been able to actually understand what’s going on.

I look forward to the second season and coming back to this site to enjoy more of your subbing efforts.

  18. HighOnCaffeine

Thanks for the release, I still have to catch up with it. You guys have done an incredible job.

  19. infhip

Great episode. thanks for all your hard work on this series :)

Hopefully you all enjoyed subbing it enough that you`ll consider doing season 2 (or what ever comes) next year.

  20. HQDniuhk

I hope that I don’t anger anyone with this comment…
My self-learned Japanese TL of the ed Yume wa Nando mo UmareKawaru
    …………………
After that the img is uploaded… I have a different thought about the ‘tsugi no sedai e’… could it be “To the next generation,” like the beginning part of a mail and the chorus part is the message itself or sth?
    Sort of like this

*preparing myself before people start telling me I was wrong*

    1. puddizzle

There’s nothing inherently wrong with creating your own translation. If you believe that translation is more adequate than ours, then go ahead and believe it. I have no qualms with that, and I cannot inform your beliefs.

However, if the reason you created that translation/posted it here is because you think our translation is wrong, then you’re propagating your own hateful ideologies and I really, really dislike that.

If you’re looking for comments regarding the translation, though, I’d say you’re eliminating keywords from the Japanese to create poetic lyrics. A lack of “reincarnation”, “de ja vu”, and misplacing the “passion”, for instance. If that’s the way you like your lyrics – simplified, poetic lines – then I can’t stop you. But if you like getting every detail of the original Japanese, then I see no reason for you to have made your own translation.

      1. HQDniuhk

First up, I didn’t get any email telling me that my comment was replied to; is there some kind of issue with the notifying system or something?
        ————————-

Now back to the program, my comment was not made with offensive intention, but your comment is filled with defensive remarks. With the link to the full version of the ending provided by olexijl, I’m even more convinced that your interpretation of this song is off. Can you really look at this and say that you correctly got where the sentence end?

From the full version, it’s pretty obvious that the meaning of every 2 lines are connected. This holds true for the entire song with the only exception is the nearly stand-alone ‘Watashi no Sendai’ – the generations before mine – line. EveTaku’s interpretation has the first 4 lines divided into 8 and then they were TLed as if those lines’ meaning were connected in 2/3/3.

“A lack of reincarnation, de ja vu” & “getting every detail of the original Japanese”
I fail to see what these 2 points have in common.

“Eliminating keywords” you said? Let’s see what Japanese I disregarded in my TL:
-Yoru no Sora ~~ night sky ~~ effect on the meaning of the TLed line: 0. Why? Because the “night sky” words there doesn’t affect the meaning one bit. Having it in the TL just make the English translation become more clunky. There’s no reason to consider it a “keyword”, unless you’re more fixated on translating every words instead of getting the meaning across.

        - reincarnation ~~ altered to “come back to life” ~~ effect on the meaning of the TLed line: 0.
        - déjà vu ~~ altered to “a repeat of” ~~ effect on the meaning of the TLed line: 0.
The song isn’t titled “reincarnation”; it isn’t named “déjà vu” either; so why are those 2 words considered “keywords” that shouldn’t have been left out? Moreover, the chorus of 2nd verse has “Ai wa reincarnation”; are you going to argue to leave the “reincarnation” in that line too? “Love is like reincarnation” like how the 1st verse was TLed?

        “and misplacing the “passion””
The ‘jounetsu’ split to the next line was in your TL only. 肺の中からよみがえるものは情熱 次の世代へ is how I’d read that line. Literal & not-yet-rearranged TL of the 1st part of the above get me “The thing that we’ll bring back to life through our lungs is passion” this is a direct connection to how the show is about rebelling against the rule that clamp down on “things that disturb the hearts” by the singing idols. On the other hand, there are much less logic to support the “Those who rise back up from the ashes give passion” interpretation.

You seems to think that I posted the comment to harass EveTaku, but no. I only posted that because I’ve heard of EveTaku from the time when you guys up your release to v3 within a few days, and that left me with the impression that you guys are willing to go that far to get your release to be as accurate as possible to anime viewers. So I posted this at the season end, the time when there’ll only be work for the batch or maybe blue-ray, the time when it’d cause less stress than if I had posted in the middle of the season.

tl;dr, I did not leave that comment with ill intention and my 3 main problems with the song TL are
        – Recognize where the sentence end wrong at the beginning of the song.
        – misinterpretation of ‘mono’ & ‘hai’ at the end of 1st part.
        – And no reason to keep the ‘reincarnation’ & ‘déjà vu’ at the cost of readability to the translated lyric.
The rest of the differences are either due to my preference or misunderstanding.

        1. lygerzero0zero

I apologize if puddi came off as rude. I am open to criticism of my translations and I do believe he overreacted.

I’m just going to respond to your three main points.

-I’m confident in the line splitting. Yes, it sounds like each set of two are connected, but grammatically it does not make sense to connect 真実は伝わるんだ with 時間の河に託した the way you did. Both clauses end on final verbs without a connector or quoting particle, so they cannot be part of the same thought.

-What makes you so confident that these were misinterpreted? Rising up from the ashes is not an unusual metaphor. After all, the phoenix is the archetypal symbol of rebirth. Whether the “mono” is 物 or 者 is slightly more arguable, but “things reviving from within the lungs” makes very little sense. Even if I accept the Japanese sentence you proposed, your interpretation of it is simply not valid, based on the grammar.

-It’s true that loanwords and foreign words don’t have to be kept faithful, but conversely, why is there a reason to change them in this case? They don’t hurt the readability of the translation, if you ask me.

          1. lygerzero0zero

Correction. The 真実は伝わるんだ clause ends on a final verb. The next one doesn’t, of course, since it links into the next line. However, the only way to continue off a だ is with a quoting particle (which is not present here). The copula only acts as a modifier when it’s in である form. Otherwise, save for nuance particles, a だ finishes the sentence. Period.

        2. puddizzle

Had you said that “I’m posting this translation because I want to help make your release as accurate as possible” in your original post, I would have understood your intentions clearly, and would probably had not made that comment. However, if you’re just going to post your translation and not say anything regarding why you’re posting it, don’t be surprised that I’m going to misinterpret your comment as “calling EveTaku’s translation wrong”.

I think we both missed our marks.

  21. AKBFan

Thanks for subbing the entire series :)

Are you considering subbing the BD episodes when they’re released?

Noticed that there’s lots of AKB converts here ;)

Please support AKB48 and all their sister groups <3

  22. asyrafbadhrul

You guys are freaking awesome for subbing this freaking awesome magnificent anime! Excellent job guys. See you Next Stage! :D

Is that a radio rip? They’ve been floating around for a while, but the “true” song isn’t coming out for another week.

  24. Anon

    Thanks for subbing the series.

Any possibility of subbing the Blu-ray episodes when they’re released?

    Can’t wait for Season 2 :)

    1. lygerzero0zero

We’re releasing volume 1 as soon as two things happen:

      1) The typesetters finish the character introduction video.
      2) The US server goes back up.

  25. Macchama

Hmm, I wonder who will be Acchan the 14th.
I have a feeling it’s going to either be Chieri or Nagisa. But then again who knows, LOL.
    Ihopeit’sgoingtobeChieri.

Anyways, thank you Evetaku for subbing AKB0048~!

    1. Prologue

Look-wise, it’s Nagisa. Especially if you look at 21m55s. Acchan the 13th makes similar faces. Maybe the original plan was to have Chieri become Yuuko, as could be hinted when she becomes the other’s Under, and it would reinforce the unclarity on who’s the main character.

I doubt they’ll stick to that plan though, since Mayuyu declared war on Yuuko at the General Elections, and again at her mini-live for Otona Jelly Beans (her second solo single).

  26. chaosprophet

In the end of the episode where they announced the second season appears the term 「AKB裁判」 that was translated as “AKB Council”. But with the current info we have about the next season, shouldn’t that be translated as “AKB Judgement”, “AKB Trial” or something similar? The last PV does show the term is related with the apparent 00 member be captured plot line.

    1. lygerzero0zero Post author

I honestly don’t know. Previews are hard to translate precisely because you don’t know what the terms are referring to. We’ll have to wait until the first episode of Next Stage.
