Idols: Always unattainable
Wow. Are we early?
It’s the second to last episode of the (first) season! Things are going down, and a lot happened this episode.
Also, update on the BD:

All the files with CRCs are finished. Character introduction is waiting on typesets, audition results are not started, and the remaining two PVs and the CM should be very easy.

Also thanks for releasing AKB, lovin this show!
Seconded.
Thanks for early AKB!
wow you’re super early!tx
why is the 10 bit version smaller then the 8 bit?is this right?tx
10bit is supposed to be smaller than 8bit. That’s its main purpose of 10bit.
…
it is a matter of quantity of data that can be stock in the same space, i don’t really know the details, but basically, in the same space, 8 bits version will have 8bit of data, while 10 bit will have 10, that’s why the 10 bit version is smaller than the 8 bit.
Just have to correct this because it’s not true. The reason 10-bit can be smaller under some circumstances is that you can replace dithered gradients with smooth ones and the player will redither when decoding. Since dithering is basically noise this saves bitrate, often enough to make up for encoding 25% more bits.
FWIW I don’t trust the gradient filters not to lose information (when you’re talking about a high-quality encode, bad filtering is a much bigger danger than a small amount of bitrate. I don’t get why fansubbers aren’t using 10-bit for really tiny 480p encodes, that’s a much better fit than using it on high-quality releases). So I’d just get the 8-bit version unless you need the space saving. (the only place I care about 50mb is on my tablet, and go figure that won’t play 10-bit)
WOW! Good job! Downloading now.

What?
Second to last? This is only going for 13 eps? Seemed like it’d go through summer…
Not enough time for any sort of decent conclusion that covers everything. Second season for sure.
Thanks for the release!
“(first) season” !?!?!?!?
there is going to be a second one??
I’d be so happy T__T
and thanks for all your work ^__^
Thanks for the release.
I have to admit, the thought of the BD coming soon makes it feel like Christmas. Thanks Santa! And thank you for such wonderful work on this odd, wonderful, fun show.
“(first) season” *o* there’s gonna be a second season?
amazing, i cant wait
Are the subtitles for the songs hard coded over the dialogue? If no, is their a way to adjust this within media player classic?
Everything is softsubbed. You can switch to the “plain karaoke” track from Media Player Classic (right click, filters) or turn off the subtitles altogether, if you wish.
Awesome, guys :) Definitely love this series despite all the hate for it. Looking forward to finishing it when episode 13 is released. A little bit off topic here: according to FansubDB, Ebiten was rumored to be fansubbed by you guys. My question is: do you guys have any plans to do that series, or is it nothing more than a rumor? It doesn’t look like anyone’s picked it up yet, so it would be awesome if you guys provided a release for it.
Yes, no one has picked up Ebiten yet. It would be great if a good group like you picked it up! :D
Pretty please?
Highly unlikely.
720i? Seriously, why not just QTGMC()ed? I think releasing in interlace format is just asking for problem from viewers.
asking for problem :|
Well because the original BD content is interlaced, and I don’t assume it is a problem that needs to be “fixed”.
If there are, however, very good reasons to do the deinterlacing (which I think is your decoder’s job) before encoding (apart from the coding efficiency stuff which I’m aware of) I’d love to hear that
Personally, I believe that de-interlacing on encoder side can produce much higher quality than on the decoder side. As far as I know, no computer can run QTGMC() on 720p content in real time.
Just my 2 cents though.
Maybe I should ask which of the following is generally preferred to encode 30fps interlaced content on the BD (both for 720 and for 1080 encode)
(a) don’t touch and leave it for the decoder (lazy and safe)
(b) bob with (Q)TGMC and keep 60fps progressive (best, but can most decoders around handle 1080p@60fps?)
(c) bob with (Q)TGMC and use 30fps progressive by dropping half of the frames (i feel guilty for trading half of the temporal resolution though)
(d) …please specify
I don’t really know which is generally preferred. But, correct me if I am wrong, isn’t most playback deinterlacers still output bob@30fps?
No, they usually bob from n fields per second to n frames per second (so 60 fields to 60 frames in this particular case)
(c) with slow settings for QTGMC is usually fine, unless it’s very high motion content (not as in “lots of things moving around” but “things moving long distances between frames”).
As for (b), this strongly depends on the video bitrate. So you might want to look into using VBV settings to keep bitrate spikes in check if you decide to go down this route. Decoders themselves won’t have a problem per se, but many computers may very well be too slow to handle 1080p60. No idea about hardware acceleration support.
I’d suggest making 30fps and 60fps test encodes to check whether the additional temporal resolution is worth the trouble.
how you did 720i from 1080i?
and i hoped you will fix some of these derps:

For the record, I only took a screenshot of the 720 folder, since the 1080 folder is a mess (all the scripts and miscellaneous files are there). We will be releasing a 1080 version.
@oneoneleven
>>how you did 720i from 1080i?<>and i hoped you will fix some of these derps<<
those "derps" had been noticed and accepted by hellborn, which could mean the following(s):
(a) he isn't capable of fixing them (b) he's way too lazy (c) he doesn't have the time (d) he likes it that way
in any case, feel free to spend the time, fix them and share with us
and no, hellborn is no elitist fansubber :P
That’s sad -_- I hope you did some aa at least. There is few scenes in Ep01 where it’s necessary.
Even so, I’m really curious how you did 720i from 1080i.
>>That’s sad
you’re not alone
>>I’m really curious how you did 720i from 1080i
quick and dirty by reducing spatial resolution from 540p to 360p
anyway, drop by IRC if you have further stuff
Thanks!
More Mayuyu Misairu!
This episode made me think of two other anime.
1) Sneaking around in mines with guns (only without angels.)
2) And that Chihaya Kisaragi style arc.
The divx was quick. or am i slow?
Quick in terms of being compared to other releases, normal in being compared to the this release. If that makes any sense at all.
Kami-Evetaku-sama!
the best ever!
thank you!
Someone pointed out to me that by reading subs and not listening, you miss a lot of references. The one example given to me is episode 7 (around 04:04), when Makoto says “Chance no Junban” (title of a song, like Flying Get and Everyday, Katyuusha). It seems there are plenty of these, so any AKB48 fan should rewatch and listen for these. ^^
>Someone pointed out to me that by reading subs and not listening, you miss a lot of references.
No. Anyone with an adequate knowledge of the name of the songs, how they’re pronounced in Japanese, and who’s paying attention to the show should be able to pick them up just fine.
Thank you for repeating what I wrote?
I didn’t repeat what you wrote.
You were implying that through watching an episode of AKB0048 with subtitles, anyone is guaranteed to miss out on a couple of references, such as an inclusion of a song name, etc. My point is that, if a viewer actually cares about those references and could actually understand them, then they must have an adequate knowledge of the names of the songs, how they’re pronounced, and they must be paying attention to the show. If a viewer is capable of those three things, then they can and will pick up any references.
Ah I see. You probably missed the “and” in the original post. I stated that by “reading subs and not listening”, emphasis on AND, you are “guaranteed to miss out on a couple of references, such as an inclusion of a song name, etc”.
Listening is included in “paying attention” in my book.
AKB48 Fan englobes “adequate knowledge of the names of the songs” (and usually “how they’re pronounced in Japanese”, since the song names are usually in the songs).
Though it’s true that I didn’t really cover most recent point about “[caring] about those references and [understanding] them”.
