There’s a major encoding error in the 8-bit release. It’s not in the 10-bit, but I haven’t gone through the entire episode yet to check. We’re definitely releasing a fixed 8-bit encode. Hopefully there’s nothing wrong with the 10-bit. New 8-bit encode is out, and the 10-bit appears to be fine.
A few updates:
Moyashimon is stuck at typesetting. And me being a lazy bum but mostly typesetting.
AKB Blu-rays are coming along. I still have to translate the extras but the main episode script is more or less final, and the encodes are done (unless I can bug hellborn to do a 720p of the extras).
Also, funny story this week. The first song is titled “To be continued”. When Caly saw that in the lyrics, she thought I wasn’t done translating, so she didn’t start the kara until I asked her later for a progress update.
Anyway, enjoy the suffering this week.

Even though this isn’t related to AKB, does anyone know why NyanTaku doesn’t do 10bit for Arcana Familglia?

When they said Nagisa no Cherry, it was clear who was going to sing it. It is said that Karen Iwata’s character was named for that song, though I can’t find a video of her singing it.
Also, if you look closely at the mess, you can see a picture of the original KojiHaru & Mayuyu, under the label AKB0048. I can’t tell if the other picture is animated or live.
I wonder why Mamoru & Aoi aren’t in the credits.

The songs’ name is kinda wrong, “Oogoe Diamond” should be “Diamond Shout”, “Iiwake Maybe” should be “Maybe, just an excuse”…
I suggest leaving the name as Romaji next time, as for AKB’s fans, it’s too obvious, for non-AKB fans, it should be easier if they want to look it up on the internet, or you can leave the translation as a side note on top like some anime usually do
There is no single “right translation” for anything. Especially when it comes to songs and poetry, everything is up to interpretation, and those were my interpretations. I always read the lyrics of the song and translate the title based on what I think most makes sense with the message of the song.
I figured there might be objections (especially since “Nagisa no Cherry” is a clear reference to Nagisa’s name, but this doesn’t come across in translation) which is why I put up the poll on the side bar this morning. If enough people would prefer the titles in Japanese, we’ll change it for batch/BD.
I might be biased as an AKB48 fan, but shouldn’t song names be left in Japanese since they are a ‘unique’ name? I mean, if a girl was named “Hana” you wouldn’t translate her name into English. You’d change, say, kuruma into car, but the Ferrari Testarossa has the same name worldwide, you’d never call it a “Ferrari Redhead” in English. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for your hard work!
Oh, and it might be relevant- when the songs have been performed by AKB48 in countries outside Japan, they’re still introduced with their Japanese names (even when performed in other languages- eg “ooge diamond – English version” was performed in New York).
By that logic, the name of every single song should be kept in English, as should all the lyrics. Because they’re unique.

Names are usually left untranslated, but it varies when it comes to titles. For example, are you more familiar with the title Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, or do you instead know the movie as Spirited Away? Unlike (most) names, titles are generally meaningful, and often the meaning is important (names can be meaningful, too. If I left all of Sonata’s nicknames in Japanese, they wouldn’t be nearly as effective). I would rather the audience know what these titles mean instead of just seeing a string of foreign syllables.
Now, recognizability is a fair point. You are right: these songs all have lives outside of the anime, and most fans know them by the Japanese titles. That’s the same reasoning behind keeping honorifics and not localizing the idols’ nicknames. So yes, there’s a valid argument for not translating them as well.
I’ve put up the poll on the side, and that will influence my decision, but ultimately it’s up to the final episodes of this season: Namely, is it more important to leave “Nagisa no Cherry” in Japanese or is it more important to translate the meaning of “Dreams Are Forever Reborn”?
Also, you’re kinda rating high on my condescend-a-meter. For future reference, you might want to take it down a notch.
