So… simulcasts were announced

And CR got everything!

SAO is technically “schedule TBA” but from what I’ve heard, it’s essentially guaranteed to be a simulcast, not a latecast. I don’t believe in picking up shows when I don’t feel we have anything of value to contribute, be it speed or translation quality, and SAO doesn’t seem like the sort of show that CR would put their B-team on. Rekyu wants to translate it anyway, so he’s currently Looking For Group ™.

Kokoro Connect was also announced. I haven’t talked to escro yet, but last I checked he said he’d probably drop for simulcast, so that’s looking like a no now.

And of course my project, Jinrui, was announced. I’ll watch CR’s version on Monday or Sunday night (depending on how quickly we release AKB) and see what I think of it. Based on the light novel, the dialogue is not complicated, but it’s subtle, and would take a bit of finesse to translate well. Don’t expect anything, though.

Oh yeah, and puddi wanted to do Chitose Get You! but… that’s simulcasted too.

Update: There are rumors that CR might be censoring Chitose because of the whole 11-year-old-with-a-crush-on-older-man thing? If that turns out to be true, we’ll probably do it. It’s only four minutes an episode, anyway.

So everything’s dropped until further notice! So what now?

Well, Rekyu could change his mind about Koi to Senkyo (which is not simulcast (yet)) and decide to translate it for us instead. We could actually catch up on some backlogged projects, who knows? Or maybe someone could convince us to pick up another project in the comments section to this post.

We shall see…

update on the nyantaku side:

Rekyu and I (Neibs) are doing these shows from scratch even though they are simul. They come out when they are out! (also chihaya is going at mach speed)

orz… Well I’m probably going to swap SAO and Koi to Senkyo (So I’d be doing SAO w/ WhyNot and Koi to Senkyo w/ Evetaku).

    1. Rika-chama

Rekyu, m.3.3.w is gonna be doing Koichoco, so a)there’s gonna be decent subs for it and b)if you wanna TLC, plz PM me on Rizon. No, Liger, not trying to steal staff or anything lol. Anyhoo… if you’re interested, just get a hold of me… or we might be open to a [m33wtaku] joint, who knows. ^__^

      1. Quattro

Post was meant to say that the project is staying with us, not switching. Although, if you wanted to joint with us, you could always bug Glaive into it~

  2. Danuchiha99

Please if your not doing any shows for the Summer 2012 season, can you please do the AKB0048 BD’s, like update to official lyrics and fixing minor problems?

Also this isn’t much to ask right?

    1. lygerzero0zero

Everything except the OP and ED are already official lyrics.

All of the insert songs are existing AKB48 songs. Translating them is one of the easiest parts of the release each week.

Mistakes and consistency issues will be fixed, however, and it’s looking likely that we’ll do the BDs if we have nothing else to do this season.

      1. Danuchiha99

You know what BD you should, you should do the Nisemonogatari BD, which all that hard-to-work-with-typesetting.

  3. random

Moyashimon Returns. Only Commie has announced plans for it (BSS dropped their plans).

A great show like Moyashimon shouldn’t be stuck with mediocre subs.

    1. lygerzero0zero

If I recall, escro was interested, but I think it conflicted with his schedule or something. We’ll see what happens.

      1. random

Conflicted with his schedule? I’d be fine with it even if you had to do late release every week to work with his schedule.

    2. Rika-chama

IF (and that’s a BIG “IF”) my source is correct, then Crunchyroll should have a really, REALLY good translator on Moyashimon 2, so hopefully that information is correct and we’ll get decent subs.

      1. random

Well if they do have it, they haven’t announced it. They also don’t have the first season and haven’t announced anything for that as well.

  4. mezzoguitar

Please focus on your backlogged projects. I look forward to more Tamayura Hitotose BDs from you.

    1. lygerzero0zero

Rekyu was a bit indisposed this week, so we don’t have a translation yet. Might get pushed to Monday.

    2. Rekyu

Sorry for the wait. Vacation and I won’t have access to a computer that’s capable enough until tomorrow. I’m dying to watch it too…

  5. A.Crush

UTW’s doing SAO, Kokoro Connect has a few groups already.

It’d definitely be better to wait and see what else doesn’t get picked up and who’s not subbing something (or if something is only getting picked up by groups known for poor TL’s and quality) and go from there.

Chitose Get You! and Koi to Senkyo sounds like a good start. Even if it’s only a few shows, getting caught up on the backlog isn’t a bad idea either.

  6. Animebaka

    Perhaps:
    Campione
    Ebiten
    Hagure Yuusha no Estetica
    Joshiraku
    Nogizaka Haruka 3
    Tari Tari

That Code Geass special, Nunnally in Wonderland seemed interesting

    1. Melina

Horriblesubs is practically dying or in a zombie state now though. It looks like the staff is missing or something.

CR first Summer title “Cardfight!! Vanguard Asia Circuit” has been aired about 30 minutes ago but Horriblesubs haven’t released them.

I won’t be surprised at the moment if Horriblesubs doesn’t release the other new CR simulcasts in the near future.

  7. Anonymous

I was hoping CR would pick up Uta Koi, since it was on TV Tokyo and no sub group whatsoever seemed interested. They didn’t.

Is there a chance you guys could do it?

  8. tyrel18

Oh boy. If you guys don’t do SOA, UTW might not do it either. Sigh, looks like HorribleSubs gonna be picking up everything this season.

  9. Animebaka

tbh, i don’t really mind how slow u guys sub simulcasted shows, as long as it’s not delayed like half a year

  10. Rekyu

Yeah, so I’m doing SAO for Nyantaku because I really want to do this show. It’s intended to be a speedsub release. Koi to Choco is leaning towards WhyNot again (so much back and forth this season ==).

    1. Silicon_J

I’d love to see your work on KoiChoco since it seems only three groups are planning to do it – Hadena, Doki and Sigh Subs (never heard of them). So, more choices the better!

      I also enjoyed your work on Sankarea – waiting patiently for the final episode. ^^;

  11. sandoe41

One show that I would like to see redone is Zettai Karen Children. The only batches for the entire series [xvid and mkv] are an UNOFFICIAL Chihiro TV release on BakaBT [OVA is on a separate torrent], and there is so much that is wrong with the quality of the subs, such as missing karaoke subs, missing fonts, misspellings, and an occasional wrong translation. I hope you will take this under consideration if your summer schedule allows for it.

  12. Progeusz

I don’t really care about any non-sequel anime in next season and they will probably have enough subs… Maybe something older?

  13. Tomato

I’m not sure if any of you are interested. But Horizon 2 could probably use subs. When the first season aired, the only decent subs were done by a couple random people on /a/. It would be nice to have some non Hadena subs.

    1. Xythar

      >implying there wasn’t a perfectly good simulcast that was amazingly well translated given the show’s difficulty

  14. MagicPower

    Guys UTW-GotWoot already got S.A.O.
I really think UTW and you guys are the best fansub groups out there and would prefer if u pick different shows! :(
The other options that I’d love to see from you are Ebiten and Yuru Yuri ♪♪ (season 2)

That’s only my opinion though good luck with whichever shows u guys pick for this season :D

    1. I'm Yuuko from Nichijou

I agree. CR subs are nothing to complain about and I’ll be using them because they’re fast too boot. Spend your time doing something noble and worthwhile, like translating something no one else (or an, ahem, /lesser/ subgroup) is doing.

  15. That Man

Damn, I’d rather watch you guys then CR anyday, but if you don’t feel like it then whatever.

    1. lygerzero0zero

      That’s on the backlog list.

We finally got around to obtaining all the raws. They’ll be translated at some point.

  16. escro

    Eyo~
I wont be back for another couple days but i figured i shud drop in so ppl know im not dead
Kokoro simulcasted is a massive pity, was really excited about doing it…
I still feel a little cheated about the simulcast tho, so i might watch ep one on release and see how the tl is… seeing as ive tled the preair, ill have something to compare it with. But like what lyger said, dont het your hopes up, kokoro is an easy show so unless the cr tl is utter shit then my tl wont be superior enough to warrant the extra wait.
Or mebe i could edit the cr subs. Saaa~

In the more likely case of a complete drop, i dont know. Its true that i wanted to do moyashimon, but because it airs on sunday i wont be able to look at the raw till at earliest tuesday night australian time.
Another problem is the probable difficulty level of the show, im not too confident that ill be able to handle all the scientific jargon. I.rewatched the first season a few weeks ago and all i can say is, it’s definitely a bit out of my comfort zone. Itll be a lot of work, and i definitely have enough motivation, but im not sure if itll be worth it in the end.

Well, there are my thoughts, for now.
Ill think about it more when im back on monday.
    :)

  17. Mayhem

How about the new Hakuouki? Ruri-subs wants to do it, but it is still uncertain, it could use some subs.

    1. Lady Lizzy Coresra

When did Ruri-subs say that? According to their page, they’re doing Hakuouki (they’re probably editing the scripts from the simulcast) and Dog Days’.

  18. HSS

Tamayura has a special BD episode. And another one comes out bundled with Vol. 7 apparently. It would be greatly appreciated if you guys subbed them.

  19. Firechick

Oh! If every anime you wanted to sub’s been taken, I know lots of obscure anime that desperately need your attention!

Momoko: Kaeru no Uta ga Kikoeru yo
    Happy Birthday: Inochi Kagayaku Toki
    Dog of Flanders: My Patrasche

Seriously, you subbed 5-tou ni Naritai already, so sub the other above two movies (Dog of Flanders is a tv series)!

      1. Firechick

Sure. That’s fine. Sorry about that. I guess I got a little too excited there. But yay! Keep up the good work!

  20. lygerzero0zero

CR’s translation for Jinrui was pretty meh but I’m not feeling up to doing it myself. They should have at least found someone who could manage speaking styles… the fairies and the bread robot should not be speaking like normal humans. Two lines I’d consider major mistranslations from a single casual viewing; a handful of others felt a bit off or were missing nuance details. Inexplicably, there are honorifics, but the name of the village was translated instead of being left as a name.

I’m feeling unmotivated at the moment and I don’t think I’m creative enough to handle the fairies’ speaking styles properly. It would take someone more skilled than either me or the CR translator to do a really top-notch job on this show, so I’m going to pass on this one.

    Back to working on AKB…

    1. skylion

I hope you can find motivation, lyger. Just watched the CR-cast; the subs felt bland. I honestly don’t know why you don’t feel up to it, the stuff I’ve seen you do here is of great calibre. But I shall respect your personal reasons.

      1. lygerzero0zero

The lack of motivation is mostly today. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed, I suppose.

My decision not to do Jinrui is with a more long-term mindset. It’s going to be overlapping AKB for the first third of the season, which is a pain. If we did pick up Jinrui, it would be a labor of love project like InuBoku, and as much as I loved InuBoku it was extremely draining to work on. I can’t devote that kind of time when this is the semester I need to be applying to grad schools, studying for the GRE, and figuring out what I’m doing with my life.

Apologies if we’ve disappointed anyone, but priorities are priorities.

        1. skylion

Nope. I’m proud to know someone (in the limited way that I do know you) that takes their priorities seriously.

        2. hmm

Psshh, nothing’s more draining than memorizing obscure words for the GRE that you’ll never again use in the rest of your life. At least there’s the satisfaction of seeing 2 or 3 of them show up on the computer screen during the exam, unless you get really unlucky or start doing so poorly the test switches into EZ mode. Or wait, I’m a couple years too old—apparently they switched the format a year ago.

          gl with life anyhow.

    2. sinkingmist

Personally I’d rather read normal English, rather than trying to decipher odd grammar and/or spelling used for the sake of capturing the speaking styles.
Sure, it could be done right, but I have doubts most translators would be able to do it in a way that isn’t just annoying.

  21. Actar

Well, darn. While I am definitely not against legal means to get one’s Anime, I really do not like the narrowing of choices that fans are getting with regards to subs. It seems that Crunchyroll subs (good or bad) are monopolizing the fansub/sub market.

Putting aside the whole ass-brained region locks, it truly sucks that many of us would have to put up with (mostly mediocre) CR subs whose translators don’t really seem to convey the level of passion and dedication for Anime and translation that you or many other fansubbers out there put into your craft. I can definitely understand not wasting time subbing something that already has great CR subs, but even the mediocre ones seem to be sapping up fansubbers’ motivations. (Not to mention, this fluctuating quality and styles is also annoying…)

Yes, there are and have been great CR scripts. However, another smaller point is of course translation styles. Each group has come to have a certain unique translation style that fans have come to enjoy, liberal, literal, honorifics, localizing, phrasing, etc… With CR, one side will always get disappointed no matter what. As I said in the beginning, this lack of choice is frustrating.

But in the end, it is of course your decision to do what you guys want to do. Looking forward to Chihayafuru!

  22. SeijiSensei

Another vote for Moyashimon Returns if CR doesn’t license it. I see one empty slot on their Summer, 2012, simulcast page, and they already list the other noitaminA show in their offerings. To me that suggests CR chose not to pursue Moyashimon, perhaps because they felt they’d need to license and translate the first season as well. They’ve got a few more days; we’ll see.

    1. random

      >perhaps because they felt they’d need to license and translate the first season as well

They simulcasted Nisemonogatari even though they don’t have Bakemonogatari. At AX2012 they said this at their panel: “Believe it or not sometimes you can get the second season but not the first…”

      We’ll see.

  23. Jeskuh

Oh? Nyantaku is might be releasing SAO?! :D Can’t wait! Seems interesting and reminds me of .hack// series

    1. lygerzero0zero

Well, we were going to. Puddi read the manga and loved it. Then he watched the anime and hated it. Apparently even the manga author complained about it on Twitter.

      So it goes.
